Outline

Semester A

Spanish 3 Semester A contains 6 (six) modules. Each module contains 10 (ten) lessons. The purpose of the Spanish 3 course is to continue developing students’ language proficiency and to provide students with the communication skills and intercultural understanding necessary to interact successfully in Spanish-speaking environments.

 

This course is aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and provides students with opportunities to strengthen their interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication skills. Students expand their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities as they create with the language and engage with authentic, culturally relevant materials on familiar and some emerging topics.

 

Students identify main ideas and supporting details in texts, conversations, and videos presented within meaningful cultural contexts.
They interpret authentic materials and respond using connected sentences and organized paragraphs. Students communicate in present,
past, and future time frames with increasing accuracy and complexity, moving toward the Intermediate proficiency range.

 

Throughout the course, students deepen their understanding of the practices, products, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking cultures.

 

Semester B

Spanish 3 Semester B contains 6 (six) modules. Each module contains 10 (ten) lessons. Spanish 3 Semester B builds upon the skills and knowledge developed in Semester A by expanding students’ proficiency through broader cultural, global, and contemporary themes connected to the Spanish-speaking world.

 

This course remains aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and continues to strengthen students’ interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication skills. Students engage with authentic texts and audiovisual materials, refining their ability to identify main ideas, analyze supporting details, and respond with increasing clarity, accuracy, and complexity.

 

Students narrate, describe, compare, and express opinions in organized spoken and written paragraphs across present, past, and future time frames. Instruction supports continued growth toward the Intermediate proficiency range by emphasizing language control, vocabulary expansion, and cultural understanding.

 

Throughout the semester, students explore the practices, products, and perspectives of communities across the Spanish-speaking world. They examine global issues, cultural traditions, and contemporary challenges while developing intercultural awareness and the ability to make meaningful comparisons between cultures.
